NTOY 2022 Mr. Kurt Russell Scheduled to Toss First Pitch at Guardians Game May 3
OBERLIN -- National Teacher of the Year 2022 Mr. Kurt Russell will be tossing out the first pitch Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the Guardians home baseball game at Progressive Field. The Guardians will take on the Padres starting at 6:10 p.m.
Mr. Russell, a history teacher at Oberlin High School, was named the 2022 National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, President Joe Biden honored Mr. Russell in Washington, D.C.
For the 2022-2023 academic year, Mr. Russell will provide more than 250 speaking engagements around the country as National Teacher of the Year.
More about Mr. Russell:
Prior to being named National Teacher of the Year, Mr. Russell was named Ohio Teacher of the Year in September 2021. He has received teacher of the year awards from the Oberlin Heritage Center in 2009 and the Oberlin Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 2019.
As an Oberlin Schools basketball coach since 1996, Mr. Russell has received numerous awards, including the Lorain County Basketball Association’s Coach of the Year and the Northeast Ohio Coach of the Year.
Mr. Russell is a 1990 graduate of Oberlin High School.
