The mission of the Oberlin City Schools is to provide effective education that will maximize success for all students in the district. Oberlin's Board has articulated the priorities of a multicultural and highly rigorous curriculum.  Oberlin City Schools is the only public school district in Ohio authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World District, offering IB at all levels, and requiring it of all students in grades pre-k-10. This highly regarded preparation results in the highest college acceptance rates, and IB graduates typically receive more advanced standing (credit) and scholarships. This remarkable benefit is but one of the many wonderful partnerships enhancing education in the Oberlin City Schools.

Benefiting from continuous community support, the district enjoys a strong and stable financial base. Oberlin was one of the first districts in the state to pass a school income tax. Most recently the Oberlin electorate passed two tax issues in November of 2007 to stabilize the long term financial future of our district. This includes a designated technology levy.

Concurrently founded in 1833 with nationally renowned Oberlin College, the city of Oberlin has a rich and diverse history with a vibrant cultural life. Called “the most cosmopolitan small town in America”, in 2004 Oberlin was named by The National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of 12 “Distinctive Destinations” in the United States for its remarkable architecture, public spaces and cultural offerings.

Easily accessible by major highways, Oberlin is located just half an hour from Cleveland and twenty minutes from the shores of Lake Erie. Oberlin has a charm all its own: tree-lined streets; bike paths; community festivals and concerts; unique shops; and some of the most interesting people in the world. Recreation facilities abound in our town. You will find indoor/outdoor pools, tennis courts, running tracks, physical fitness equipment and much more throughout Oberlin.
