Letter to Families: OHS Mock Accident Scene

Letter to Families: OHS Mock Accident Scene

Dear Oberlin School Families,

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, at approximately 9:25 a.m., all Oberlin High School students will be observing a very realistic mock crash in which a vehicle has been involved in a simulated crash. This outdoor staged event will include members of the OHS Drama Club, first responders and possibly, Metro Life Flight. Please note that the exercise will be carefully staged and supervised by trained professionals. While it will involve emergency vehicles and personnel, it may cause for alarm. We believe that practicing these scenarios is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and the community. It will be an impactful day for our high school students. During the event, the District Support Staff will be on hand guiding our students through this experience.

While the actual event is geared toward our high schoolers, it is important to let our Oberlin Elementary School and Langston Middle School families be made aware of this event as well. All students may see and hear first responders arriving, especially Metro Life Flight. Metro Life Flight is a recognized air and ground critical care transport service with a location at the Lorain County Regional Airport making it accessible to the communities served throughout Northern Ohio.

School districts throughout Lorain County often host similar events as prom and graduation are approaching. We encourage families to speak with their children about the dangers of texting while driving, drinking and driving and other distractions. This can be a very teachable moment for all.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If your child has any specific concern, question, or decides not to participate, please notify your school counselor.

Sincerely,

Mr. Brent Betts
