Expanding Access: No Cost Internet

Oberlin City Schools Guardians:

The Oberlin Cable Co-op, City of Oberlin, and Oberlin City Schools would like to provide no cost Internet and Technology to our students during the COVID-19 school closure.

During the school closure, the district has identified about 250 parents who do not have technology access. Two hundred fifty students are almost ¼ of our families. The lack of technology in homes limits our student’s ability to access educational resources during the closure due to COVID-19. The district has developed many educational packets for students, but the technological resources through this funding will provide additional academic support. Many of the district’s educational programs like Google Classroom, Raz Kids, Naviance, BrainPop, Apex, I- Ready, Flocabulary, WeVideo, Gizmo, Desmos, Flipgrid, MakeMusic, and various others are web-based. The Cable Co-op and Oberlin City Schools applied for the funding based on the City’s Climate Action Plan – Education and Outreach and Resilience initiatives. We will begin accepting applications on Monday, March 30, 2020.

Students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch are eligible for the program. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Oberlin City Schools understand that many family’s economic situations may have changed. All families can reapply for Free and Reduced Lunch by submitting an application found here: Free & Reduced Application (PDF). All verified applications would provide Free and Reduced Lunch for the remainder of this year and the start of the next school year.

Parents can submit applications for no cost internet and devices by the following methods (Click Here For Online Application, Click Here For Application (PDF), Click Here For Spanish Application (PDF), you can also pick up an application during the Monday and Thursday meal distribution, as well as IGA or Dollar General.):

School Community:

Oberlin City Schools will expand our FREE PreK-12 Breakfast and Lunch program sites, to increase participation. The district will distribute meals from the following sites: Eastwood Elementary, Prospect Elementary, Mt. Zion Church Parking Lot, and Dollar General Parking Lot on Mondays and Thursdays. This will begin on Monday, March 30.
