He is the founder of the organization “Get with the Program”. Mr. Williams also have students in the district. He will officially take office in January.

Poetry Reading:
Our creative students shined once again as they celebrated their innovative writing skills through “A Celebratory Poetry Reading and Book Launch” in November at the Cat in the Cream Coffeehouse. Our students wrote and recited poetry during the event. Many of our Oberlin City School students actively participated in the event. Great Job!

Langston Academic Challenge Team
Langston Middle School represented Oberlin Schools in the Lorain County Academic Challenge competition hosted by the Lorain County ESC. Langston finished second in their division and will advance to the four team County final on December 6th at First Baptist Church beginning at 9:30 AM. Great Job!

Facilities Update:
The district received an update from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) at our last board meeting on November 28, 2017. The OFCC provided information on various construction and renovation options the district could engage in to update our school system. Please visit our district website to view the presentation.

Strategic Planning Update:
Oberlin City Schools is engaging in a Strategic Planning Process. The process is 100% grant funded and facilitated by the Ohio School Board Associations (OSBA). The plan will provide a 5-year focus for the district, which will include developing a new vision and mission statement. The team consists of 35 members: teachers, administrators, School Board members, school staff, parents, and community members. The Team will engage in four meetings this school year.

1st Strategic Planning Meeting
November 16, 2017 @ Oberlin High School
6:00 – 9:00

Meeting Summary:
Our Strategic Planning team met on November 16 at Oberlin High School from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We had 30 members attend the first meeting. The team discussed and reviewed the districts vision statement. The team provided many options to add and revise the vision statement to include the word “community”. The team felt that the city of Oberlin is unique in the area of having great community support for the schools. The team would like for the districts vision and mission statements to reflect how our community is involved in supporting our schools – It takes a village. The meeting was very productive and collaborative. Please visit our website for additional Meeting Minutes.
