Oberlin City Schools School Closing Information

School Community:

As you know, from time to time it becomes necessary to delay the start of a school day or close school altogether.

As winter approaches, our district has been preparing for the inclement weather: purchasing salt, servicing our snow blowers, preparing our vehicles, and making sure our facilities heating systems are ready to go. However, the North Eastern Ohio weather will still require the district to cancel school periodically. Canceling or delaying school is a very difficult decision for superintendents. The decision to close school impacts our students, parents, and our community. So, the decision is made very carefully. The decision is made based on many factors. I have listed some of the factors that impact the decision.

· The district monitors the weather locally, regionally, and nationally. We monitor the weather for climate patterns, precipitation, and wind chill.
· Superintendent or an administrator will drive our district roads as early as 3:00 am, if needed. This allows a first hand experience on road conditions specific to Oberlin.
· The district maintains close communication with all county superintendents. We provide each other with information regarding additional weather conditions impacting bordering school lines.

Oberlin City Schools will provide our school community with as much advance notice as possible when the decision is made to close school.

The district will utilize the following media sources to notify our school community of a closing or delay:

· Email
· Text Message
